I think Sharilyn's address files are the best-designed ones out there: sustainable wood + pretty papers in a simple, straight file. These address files will be re-released again in a couple months — check out her blog Lovely Design to find out about pre-ordering one and see all the crafty ways Sharilyn spends her time with her adorable daughter Adelaide. I already have a circular address file from Pottery Barn (ok I have a few) that I use for business contacts, but address files are such simple, pretty organizers. I've been brainstorming ways to use this file:
how to use my address file:
1. easy recipes spotted on my growing Reader of food blogs to pull out an answer to what's for dinner
2. destinations near and far I hope to travel to one day — with any tips heard/read about
3. keep track of restaurants, bakeries, florists, and shops I want to check out
4. an idea file of random inspiration hoping to come together as one big project (book maybe?)
5. a running list of things that make me happy to read on a bad day
6. what I'd buy if I could: a shopping list for post-recession times
7. something to do with taxes — not sure what, but could be great if I work in mini envelopes
8. a running gift list file alphabetized by person — to avoid the fatal re-gift or duplicate gift error
9. an ever-growing decorating bible for my dream apartment (sure Tumblr is great, but I always need a paper file for inspiration, too), organized by topic. P for paint: a list of paint colors I love. S for stove: the range I heard about on Katy Elliott that sounds like a winner.
10. the ultimate baby shower gift: organize tips, recipes, books, favorite products + brands, and more from everyone into one neat file for a friend (ok, that's not how I'll use mine since I'm selfishly keeping it — but wanted to share the idea anyhow)
11. oh yeah, or just organize work contacts
