Last night, I went with Mercie to the opening party of the Nightwood pop-up shop at be@schermerhorn in downtown Brooklyn. We had fun. Excuse my attempts at taking photos in a dimly lit studio space with a glass of wine in hand (some of these photos are blurry — sorry!). You must go see the space for yourself if you're in the area! It's 4000 square feet of wow. If you've been following along here, you already know my love for Nadia and Myriah's talent. My desk and my bathroom accessories are Nightwood designs. I'm a big fan of their unique way of combining vintage with new, recycled and reclaimed materials, along with their handmade touch.
I obsessed over the chairs. Aren't the portrait pillows and chairs so cool?
The space has some surprises even if you're familiar with Nightwood's work (including some original lighting, art, and stationery from other local artists). You'll also find Nightwood classics, like Myriah's patchwork casegoods.
Nadia (that's her in the photo) designs the softgoods in their collection. She upholsters the chairs and sofas and creates the pillows and gorgeous hand-dyed gauzy window panels.
Both Nadia and Myriah are so sweet, and it's clear as soon as you walk in the shop that these two have put their heart and passion in making the space an experience that's uniquely their voice. I can't wait to stop by again. I hear that Nadia will be making things in the shop for the three months that they have the space — so you can see her sewing in one of their handmade shelters if you pop by, just like a working art installation.
Check out this article that ran in the New York Times about the Nightwood pop-up shop. Cheers to Nadia and Myriah — your shop looks incredible!
ps. Thanks to Mercie for coming out to Brooklyn — we finally connected!
