The devastation and loss of life from the earthquake in Haiti is absolutely heartbreaking. I think it's amazing that technology is being put to good use so that people can instantly give with a simple text message. Many indie artists are donating portions of their proceeds to Haiti relief efforts. I spotted this handknit cup cozy — an eco-alternative to the cardboard sleeve — from Hearts for Haiti on Etsy. This Etsy collective includes donated items from hundreds of Etsy shops, where 100% of the proceeds goes directly to Doctors Without Borders (and the items include seller-donated free shipping.) If you're on the hunt for a gift (or a treat for yourself), you can choose something that gives back.
more ways to give to Haiti:
+ a roundup of Etsy shops giving back to the cause from Apartment Therapy
+ Victoria of sfgirlbybay compiled a fantastic list of handmade goods, artists, and blogs contributing to the effort, including a complete list of donors on Etsy.
I'm ordering a rubber stamp from Paperfinger now (remember from the gift guide?), as Bryn is donating $15 from each custom return address stamp order to Partners in Health. And we're giving a separate donation to Partners in Health, an organization that's well set up to be of great assistance there, as they've been doing work in Haiti for years.
