Walk into Zonal Home. Cue lovefest. That pretty much sums up my experience in this San Fransisco home shop, tucked on a quiet block of Hayes Valley. The owner salvages a fantastic collection of early 1900's American tables, chairs, stools, and benches. Vintage accents (like metal cash boxes), lighting, and folk art fill the shop as well. The farm style tables and chairs, with their original chipped painted finish, sit alongside modern upholstered sofas, which are also for sale. It's the real deal, and I definitely walked away wishing American Airlines would check a vintage drafting table for a $15 surcharge. (Zonal does offer a shipping service — shipping furniture across country just wasn't in my budget.)
(above) an antique milking table that would be a gorgeous kitchen table.
hello, vintage drafting table.
the downstairs of Zonal Home holds even more treasures.
These painted farmhouse benches would be a perfect space-saving solution for a narrow entryway.
I loved this antique side table in the corner with its blue painted finish (and it's on wheels!). I would use the table as a counter-height desk. That's the beauty of a shop like Zonal Home — even though I walked out empty-handed, I left inspired with a better sense of what I want for our apartment. And the owner, Russell Pritchard, is sweet and helpful. Zonal was definitely one of my favorite stops on the trip.
