After living in New York for some years, and ping ponging around a few apartments in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the neighborhoods feel like mini villages to me. In your neighborhood, you have your favorite brunch spot, the dry cleaner who knows how you like your shirts done, and the cashier at the corner market who smiles when you walk in. I guess that's how the biggest city in the country feels not so big when you live here — your neighborhood becomes your home. So this Maptote design (that's a special limited edition for the J.Crew Men's Shop at the Liquor Store) is not only super cute, but it reminds me how New York neighborhoods do feel like mini cities.
Walking through one of my old neighborhoods tends to feel like opening a photo album. The memories circling around every corner rush back. And in this funny way, the four neighborhoods where I've lived seem to mirror the different stages of my twenties. It'd be fun if Maptote started designing totes of more New York neighborhoods. It's amazing how attached you can get to yours (and I do adore those tote bags!).
For the record, I've never lived in Tribeca, but I feel connected to the streets of this neighborhood (shown above.) Through years of bouncing around apartments and jobs, Tribeca has been one constant, as I regularly make my way there to go to my longtime yoga studio. This weekend, I'm breaking out of my hood in Brooklyn to hit the beach (showers please stay away!). Have a great weekend!
