Dan and I have known each other since we were 19, when I didn't own one cookbook but had pulled together a rather impressive collection of screenprinted T-shirts from Urban Outfitters. So he knows me well. But one thing Dan didn't know before living with me: I like to color-code books. I actually love to play around styling my books so our treasured hardcovers create blocks of color in the bookcase. And yes, I even organize my cookbooks by color. My cookbook collection swelled to new heights a couple years back, and so I invested in this West Elm bookcase. I love how this simple metal bookcase stores all of my cookbooks (including my Everyday Food magazines) in one neat column. It's easy to find what I need. And after a satisfying hour spent styling my cookbooks (deciding that I like pinks next to orange and blues look lovely next to yellow), my cookbook collection is now organized in our new apartment. I love seeing the colorful spines stacked together. As Dan could tell you, black books get positioned on the bottom, below eye level, as I'm a bigger fan of color.
