I've driven all around Maine the past two weeks, doing one of my favorite things — shopping little antique shops and markets. But it's funny how sometimes the best finds are right under your nose. There's an antique mall just ten minutes down the road from Dan's family's camp. It was one of the first places I drove by, since it's so close. And it's the one of the best antique shops that I found in Maine. At the Sabattus Antique Mall, the prices are good (I scored a gorgeous mirror for $15) and there is a ton of stuff from furniture to vintage housewares to linens— and every kind of jar. (I had no luck hunting down Weck jars anywhere, though.) Yesterday was my third trip – and no joke, each time I walked away with new finds I hadn't spotted before.
Here's my loot from yesterday: a vintage metal scale (love!), a couple aprons in pretty patterns, a lidded blue mason jar (every shop in Maine has blue jars, but the prices at Sabattus were on the low end), and an embroidered dress that cost me all of $8 and reminds me of this Mexican dress I've been crushing. If you make it up to Maine and want to do some antique shopping, I'd actually recommend going inland and shopping the western Lakes/Mountain region of Maine and random inland spots like the Sabbatus Antique Mall. The shops along Route 1 have fantastic finds — but the prices are definitely much higher as it's the main tourist route.
I'm starting the drive back to Brooklyn today. Thanks for following my little summer adventure in Maine — it's been really fun reading everyone's comments! Next week, I'll be back to settling in to our new apartment with my list of 1001 projects to do – see you on Monday!
