I've been stalking Yellow Owl Workshop for the new camp stationery sets (above left), ever since I saw these irresistible papergoods at the Stationery Show. The imperial stationery set (on right) is swell, too. For both correspondence sets, you write your name or initials in the crest. How adorable is that!
I love the idea of special paper for letter writing from camp. I went to an overnight camp that was right on a lake in northern New Jersey from age 11 to 17. My mom had to push me up there the first summer, as I was a super shy girl who didn't like new situations where I didn't know anyone (still don't, really.) I loved it so much that I went back the following summer for an entire month, and after that year, I spent my summers (8 weeks) at camp, and eventually became a camp counselor there. I made friends who are still incredible friends of mine to this day. There's a special kind of bond you form when you're living with friends at that age.
Camp really personifies adventure and trying things: learning how to build a campfire and make the perfect s'more, jumping off docks, making the daily trip to the Trading Post with your cabin for a pint of Ben & Jerry's (in the days when you'd eat the entire pint and not think twice), hearing and believing in ghost stories, spending loads of time at the Arts + Crafts Smash, cheering till you're hoarse to support your team in Color War, discovering the cafeteria's grilled cheese sandwich dunked in tomato soup is a winning combo, and sharing every little ridiculous moment with your crew. My permanent love for sending and receiving mail definitely stems from camp. We would wait in line at the flagpole each day to receive our mail. My amazing mom would send a care package every week full of important treasures like homemade chocolate chip banana bread and hair ties. And I spent many afternoons by the lake writing long letters to friends at home. It'd be so fun to read one of those letters now.
