I've been making rainbow care packages for a few friends in need of rainbows. I sent one along to a friend whose birthday was yesterday (happy birthday, Liz!) since she's a West Coaster, and I don't get to celebrate her birthday with her. One is enroute to a friend who sadly lost a dear friend of hers recently. And I have a couple more in the works. About a month ago, a few friends lost someone close to them. At a loss for words, I thought making a care package might be a good idea. Hopefully, the packages are a bright surprise in the mail that add some cheer.
The inspiration for the star element in the care package — personalized crayons — were these adorable pencils by Simplesong I spotted recently. To make the crayon wrappers, I used Post-Its and a rubber stamp. For Liz's care package, I made birthday-themed crayons with a birthday greetings stamp. Post-Its are perfect to turn into crayon wrappers because they're about the same size. Make two little snips for size, then start rolling it around your crayon, starting with the sticky side of the Post-It. Then finish it off with a glue stick. Here's what I put in the care package:
+ rainbow Post-Its for doodling away with a dozen special crayons
+ Starbursts
+ a favorite tea: African Red Bush (with fun stirrers)
+ a rainbow of gumballs (not shown as I found them from a street vendor on my way to the post office!)
+ colorful striped cosmetic pouch: I was stumped on what to package everything in, and then I spotted these pretty striped zippered pouches (by Designers Guild) at my local Daffy's. They typically sell for about $30, but I found them there for $5 and picked up a few.
