Happy Cinco de Mayo! If I could only eat one cuisine for the rest of my life, I could definitely live off Mexican food. Dan and I are amidst packing + getting ready for our move in a few weeks, so we won't be hosting a fiesta tonight. I will be picking up these fun Mexican party banners to throw a fiesta in the new place this summer. For sure. Ten reasons I heart Mexico:
1. homemade guacamole: you can often find me at our local market sniffing avocados to pick out the best, just-ripe fruits.
2. tacos of every variety: I love them all. My favorite new twist on the beef taco is adding roasted red pepper pesto as a sauce for the meat (rather than taco sauce.)
3. The Brooklyn Salsa Company: I'm dying to dip some tortilla chips in their fresh salsas!
4. anything with a twist of lime makes me happy
5. Mexican wedding cookies: yum.
6. a margarita on the rocks with salt — that's my order
7. many New Yorkers are loyalists to Rosa Mexicano, but I'm in the Mexican Radio camp
8. San Miguel de Allende: I attended a beautiful wedding for two friends in this artsy Mexican town. There's no beach (it's Central Mexico) but it's still a dream destination.
9. Mexican folk music in the heart of Chicago
10. there's something about adding a Mexican flavor to a party that makes everyone instantly more relaxed — don't you think?
