Five of us from college have started a tradition: we make sure to meet up each year for a girly reunion (especially if we haven't seen each other already for a wedding.) Since we're bi-coastal friends, these trips pack a lot of conversations, laughter, good food, and swapping information in the way only girlfriends can do. For last year's reunion, in honor of the big 3-0, we met in a city where none of us had been before: Santa Fe. It was a real treat and that city is fantastic for budget vacations. We rented this little adobe house that was right close to the main square (where Native Americans sell beautiful handmade jewelry on the street), Terah brought many snacks, and we made use of our kitchen. But you have to eat out dinners when you're on vacation, and we ate well. I love the Santa Fe twist on Mexican food. Favorite restaurant: Cafe Pasqual's. This top photo is from a walking meditation of a labyrinth in the downtown area, right outside a church. (My feet are bottom center — the clog boots.)
On our first day we explored Bandelier National Monument — a must-see.
My favorite part was climbing up into the caves. It's amazing to think how people used to live in these caves — an entire community of cliff dwellers. Here I am hanging out in a cave with Erin and Terah!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's favorite place! (If you're new here, I'm on a getaway, so this week I'm sharing a special series on favorite places where I've traveled.)
