I will always love terracotta pots, because they are pretty and classic. But sometimes you need something lighter and more practical that won't crack. A plastic pot was the solution. Now that's changed — there's a green alternative that's just as affordable (and better looking, in my book.)
Three years ago EcoSource came on the scene with an idea: they wanted to link conscience with consumerism. So they discovered how to make flowerpots out of a biodegradable material. Ecopots, or greenPots, are made from rice, specifically the by-product of hulling rice. So they took a material that is normally thrown away and created a purpose for it. How cool! Here's an interesting greeny part of their business: Ecosource only sells their line of green pots to small businesses (the collection is not sold in the big-box stores.) That's something I haven't heard too much about — selling local. You can also find EcoSource's line of green pots through Shop Green Village.
EcoSource created kits with seeds to grow flowers + herbs, too (which make a sweet gift.) Their sunflower kit would be the perfect way to start a bee-friendly garden! Just because the pots are biodegradable, doesn't mean they fall apart either — their green pots will last for five years. You can find a retailer near you on their site.
p.s. In case you missed Abby's Green Swap q+a, I have a great giveaway for any of you interested in gardening! Just comment on her post and you'll be entered to win.
