Just a quick note on my book series for today: these books are out now, so you can find them at your local bookstore. I plucked a few favorites off my bookcase, so they're not the newest of the new, but each has great inspiration. I thought Eco-Chic Weddings would be a good book for anyone who enjoyed the post yesterday on the $3,000 wedding I spotted on Once Wed. Budget wedding + eco-conscious ideas certainly work together. A few highlights:
reuse: a non-typical wedding venue may be a great deal
Examples include university chapels, campus reception areas, a vineyard (may offer a discount on wine), a park, a non-profit cultural center or check out Unique Venues for ideas by location.
reduce junk mail
You definitely start getting junk mail once you create a registry (hello, tons of random DJs sending me postcards!). Reduce the paper waste by removing your name from direct marketers' lists through the Direct Marketing Association.
don't use balloons
There are no earth-friendly balloons — they're still dangerous to sea animals like turtles and seabirds. Bummer.
the eco-honeymoon
And for anyone looking to travel, the book listed a number of eco-chic destinations including St. John (14 ocean-side tent-cottages), Bora Bora (the Eden Beach Hotel uses solar energy), and the Sun Ranch Lodge in Montana.
