This week's what's in store post is inspired by my dear friend Jenn who's tying the knot with her sweet beau Pat next fall. Jenn and Pat met while studying in Toyko, and she asked me recently to suggest ideas for wedding decorations with an Asian flare. My first thought: Pearl River Mart. This multi-level store is chock full of affordable, unique decorations and little hoohahs that could make fun favors — and this Chinese department store sells many goodies online. So, check out my favorite finds from Pearl River with a wedding twist.
{above} One parasol hung from a ceiling looks lonely and sad. Go for volume: pick up a bunch of parasols in your party's color palette and float them from the ceiling— so divine. These parasols would look extra pretty strung by a window so the paper catches the natural light.
Ditto goes for the Chinese paper lanterns. I like a mix of sizes in one color (or one color in different tones, like shades of blue.) I'm not a fan of the kooky shapes — the sphere is classic. Don't worry about filling the lanterns with bulbs: the shapes of these lanterns can be decor all on their own. A cluster of paper lanterns over a table would be smashing.
I absolutely ADORE these paper bento boxes. You can buy a whole set of four (right) for $7.50 to $9 or the replacement bowls (left) for a dollar each. How lovely would it be to have appetizers served in these Japanese-style dishes!
I got a kick out these Chinese paper yoyos that roll and unroll — a fun 50-cent favor for the welcome bag. These gold-tipped bamboo chopsticks are chic and so affordable — $2 for eight pairs of chopsticks. Tea in tins (above) would make excellent take-away favors — or you could use empty decorative tea tins as bud vases for flowers.
Click below the fold to see some more inspiration from my scouting trip to Pearl River. I am giddy about the next what's in store shop — be sure to check back in next week to see a very special shopping spot in the city.
Packages and packages of origami paper to make paper cranes for a party — I love the patterns and the metallic sheets.
For $2.50 a piece, you can pick up lovely tubes of incense. Or use this silver foil craft paper for wedding crafting.
Happy wedding planning, Jenn + Pat!
