Today I'm kicking off a mini-series all about maps with these Maptote canvas bags. I would love to one day have a room filled with a few maps — there's something so special about a map connected to a place you love. So I was smitten with these silkscreened totes designed by Rachel and Michael, a super cute Brooklyn duo who joined her fashion sense with his cartography talent. The bags come in a mix of styles and there are many cities to choose from.
Dan likes to tease me about my collection of totes. It's true that I own more reusable tote bags than wearable shoes. But I use my totes for more than just the weekly farmer's market trip — they're handy all around the house. Here are 8 other ways to use a tote (in no particular order):
1. Stash your bulky bathroom supplies (hair dryer, Sonicare charger, brush), especially if you don't have a vanity sink. Just hang your tote over a bathroom hook.
2. Wow out-of-towners with a wedding welcome bag that guests will love. You can customize the tote for your wedding location — contact Maptote for more information.
3. Set a bag aside for clothes going to the dry cleaners.
4. Contain all your trash + recycling bags in one spot.
5. Keep your yarn, fabric, and knitting projects in order.
6. Give yourself a receipt + paper "dump" bag until you have time to sort and deal with it all.
7. Store your travel gear (shawl, cosmetic kit, inflatable travel pillow, socks, Advil, etc.) in one go-to bag.
8. Frame a Maptote of a favorite place as a sentimental way to remember the city.
In about a week, I'll be sharing the second post of the map series — stationery favorite Dauphine Press is mapping out ideas for invitations. You won't want to miss it!
