Dan and I have some mismatched stemware in our glass cabinet, but to be honest, I almost always reach for our tumblers — even when we're entertaining. Austrian glassmaker Riedel really jumpstarted stemless being cool with its 'O' glass, and since then, the casual spirit of drinking wine from an everyday glass has caught on. I personally love it. And while I enjoy my O's and a pair of double-wall glasses, these recycled glass tumblers are my main squeeze. So pretty, right? I love their hand-finish shape (they're made from wine bottles), color, and their substantial feel — perfect for clumsy folks like myself.
Two years ago, I stumbled upon these exact glasses on their manufacturer's site, the Green Glass company. This family-owned American glass company has a site and all, but truth be told, they're not quite retail-friendly. A recent notice from their site:
"Our production has reached maximum capacity for 2008. All orders placed after 11/15/08 will not ship until January 2009."
So I was tickled when I found out that Pottery Barn was going to start carrying these glasses (see photo, above left.) Leave it to a big retailer to make it a cinch to shop. I also noticed Heath Ceramics carries these glasses by Green Glass (in cyan for a smidge more money, see photo, above right) when I created my wedding registry there. I love discovering the little lesser known companies, but sometimes it's great to have a couple sources you can rely on. You can pick up these eco-conscious tumblers by Green Glass from Pottery Barn here or from Heath Ceramics right here. I use our set of tumblers on an everyday basis.
